About
A Graphic Novel
On may 20th, 2021 Barack Obama was asked in a casual interview on the Late Night Show what he thought about "Dem Aliens." After quieting the crowd, instead of deflecting to the next question, he soberly stated that "in all seriousness, there are, in fact, things in the sky which we cannot explain..."
After a very long eyebrow raise, a multi-year Brady Bunch procession of Pentagon disclosures, far too many late night google searches, innumerable podcasts, books, articles, interviews, many walkabouts, and many and many a dream plugging a map of the fantastical overtop a constellation of the mysterious. This story is what follows. It is envisioned in it's entirety with a beginning, a middle, and an end.
If you have ever seen Zemeckis and Carl Sagan's movie Contact, then you may remember that moment at the end when Jodie Foster speaks to the alien image of her father. He says “You are an interesting species. An interesting mix. You’re capable of such beautiful dreams. And such horrible nightmares. You feel so lost. So cut off. So alone… See, in all our searching, the only thing we’ve found that makes the emptiness bearable is each other.”
Jodie, unable to let go of the possibilities that this moment of contact teases her, with, innocently asks "what next?"
The movie Contact answers that question with "you go home". We never really get to see what happens the day after contact.
Ocean Stream aspires to begin it's story where Contact ends.
This is a story where Contact is just the beginning.
Our Story

I live in a sleepy hollow suburb on the southern edge of a northern wilderness, in Vancouver Island, Canada - near my mountains, forests, lakes, rivers, and ocean. I have always been a lover of adventure, spirituality, philosophy, politics and history. But it wasn't until my time in social work that community building and cultural bridging grounded my passion for connecting people through sharing stories.
Today my life revolves around my sassy sweet-hearted stay-on-your-toes daughter, work, and writing. There is also a little bit of non profit work supporting our local Comox Valley Film Festival and probably far far too much ball hockey with my beloved North Island Jets hockey team.
I am often unsure whether I enjoy discovering stories more, or bringing people together to share them.
Developing this graphic novel has been a revelation as I've discovered the joy in doing both.
Darcy John Rose McNei
The Team
I knew I was very lucky to have such a talented newly met slate of exceptionally talented artists bringing the graphic novel Ocean Stream to life. What I didn't quite realize however until I started writing these bios was the kind of family oriented character this team would be made up of. I didn't plan it like that, but it sure is nice that it worked out that way.
Sure, this is a SyFy Contact story. But it is not only about exploring the power of Contact between species, it is also about between people.
Communities. Neighbours. Friends. Family.
Oozing with heart and imagination,
this our team.

Brian Howes
Assoc. Producer & Music
Brian is a self-made rags to riches multi-platinum grammy winning music producer and song writer. And even though you have probably heard multiple songs that he has written and/or produced with artists ranging from Nickelback to Taylor Swift, he is also just a genuine down to earth guy with a great great family that he loves and adores. He also happens to be a big syfy fan, ball hockey team mate, and good good friend excited to help Ocean Stream out in any way he can.

Geoff Scott
Videography & Editing
Geoff is an old friend from my days in Community TV where he was the founding producer and presdient of the program Tri City Community TV where he has been an award winning technical, administrative, and community organizing everyman. He has also been a leading advocate for CACTUS to reinstitute Community Television all across Canada. Geoff's contributions to video are helping make more than just TEASERS, but also an exciting EXTENSION OF THE STORY.

Orrin Stroll
Never have I known a lawyer that is so quick help, but so slow to bill. Orrin has been a great source of encouragement, guidance and candour that has gone far beyond the typical purview of counsel. This is a deeply principled man who is proudest as a father first and foremost, but whom has years of experience running his own entertainment law firm and teaching at Vancouver Film School.

Nino Cajayon
Pencilling Inking
Nino is a talented and hard working up in coming artist from the Philipines who illustrated most of every page in this first issue. He's handled a first time author with a lot of patience and isn't afraid to steep himself in research and produce quickly with a tremendous amount of detail.
